A Rivers State High Court has sentenced Sodienye Mbatumukeke to death for the murder of Chukwuma Eleje a delivery agent of online shopping giants, Jumia in Port Harcourt on March 27, 2017.
The judge, Chigozie Igwe, found Mbatumukeke guilty of armed robbery and the murder of Eleji but discharged and acquitted Divine Naabee, who stood trial with Mbatumukeke in the case. He said the convict should die by hanging.
The accused were tried on a two-count charge of the murder of Chukwuma Eleje and armed robbery.
Eleji was killed on 27, March 2017, when he went to deliver items ordered by an online buyer. Police recovered his corpse in a septic tank and arrested Mbatumukeke and Naabee for the crime.
