Youths of Bonny kingdom in Rivers State have suspended their plan to shut down activities in Bonny Island to protest the failure of multinational oil and gas companies doing business in the kingdom to honour their corporate social responsibility obligations to the community.

The process of the total shutdown, which began in the early hours of Monday, was suddenly suspended as tension began to build up on the island.
Bonny Youth Federation (BYF) had mobilised youths for protest and stationed them at all entry and exit routes to the Island including markets and offices.

This raised panic, forcing the major stakeholders in Bonny like the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas and other multinationals to quickly confer and reach out to the state government.

Finima Youth Congress (FYC) had however broken away from protest plans when it released a statement dissociating Finima people from what they termed invasion of their area by Bonny people.
Bonny Youth Federation and the Bonny Kingdom Development Committee reacted by accusing the Finima youths of being sponsored to sabotage the protest.

It was gathered that a truce was reached after the BYF has already mobilised the youths to the streets. The protests was consequently suspended and the Island was reopened to incoming and outgoing traffic. A meeting was scheduled to hold between the IOCs led by the NLNG and the Bonny people in two days time.

The mobilised groups subsequently marched down to the Government Secondary School in Bonny to dispel the cool off and resorted to drumming, singing, and dancing.
