Army Kills Shekau’s Impostor

The Nigerian Army, said it has killed Mohammed Bashir, who had been impersonating the deceased Abubakar Shekau, the man believed to be the leader of the Boko Haram sect on videos. Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, revealed the information while briefing newsmen in Abuja, on Wednesday, September 24.

Olukolade said the ongoing devastation on the leadership of Boko Haram is as a result of the renewed dedication to the mission of eradicating terrorism in the country by the military. He said that Nigerian troops had been conducting coordinated air and land operations in furtherance of efforts at containing the terrorists.

The defence spokesperson warned that anyone who takes the title of Shekau remains a target, adding “if another Shekau comes up tomorrow, he becomes a target; we must thank Nigerians for the interest they have shown, which has boosted the morale of the troops.” He also revealed that 135 terrorists had surrendered to the Nigerian Army in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

Olukolade also called for more vigilance and cooperation between the troops and the people, in order for them not to be taken by surprise by the insurgents who may want to carry out isolated attacks in different parts of the country. He also reiterated that no neighboring Army came inside the country to assist in any battle.
