The Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG has mourned the death of Mama Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, the wife and inestimable jewel of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the avatar of progressive politics in Nigeria. Awolowo died around. 3:45 pm on Saturday at her residence, in Ijebu, Ogun State. Awolowo would have turned 100 in November.
In a statement signed by Kunle Famoriyo,publicity secretary, ARG,
The Group said the news of her death came as a shock as no one would ever wanted to lose a jewel” but we are comforted by the kind of life Mama lived. Like Chief Awolowo, whose philosophies will forever remain a guidepost for progressive politics, Mama HID lived out and left behind a strong legacy, as an agent of peace and personification of bravery and tenacity.
She dedicated her life as the critical support needed by her husband in the pursuit of common good and the building of an egalitarian society.”
ARG called on all Yoruba people and all Nigerians to celebrate Mama HID’s lifetime and legacy.
As Nigerians from different walks of life continue to pour tributes on the departed matriach, Ibukunle Amosun,governor of Ogun State has also expressed shock at her death,describing her as a great woman.
