Akinwumi Adesina, the outgoing minister of agriculture, has been elected as the new president of the African Development Bank, AfDB.
Adesina defeated Cristina Duarte, minister for finance, planning and public administration, Cape Verde and Kordje Bedoumra, Chad’s minister of finance and budget and other five contenders to become the 8th president of the development financial institution.
The Nigerian minister of agriculture, who is expected to take over from Donald Kaberuka, the outgoing president, on September 1, 2015, had campaigned that his vision is to help build a new Africa with prosperous, sustainable and inclusive growth.
He said the continent is filled with hope, opportunities, liberties and freedom, with shared prosperity for all.
