The Edo State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of academic activities in three secondary schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area following intelligence reports warning of a possible coordinated kidnapping attempt targeting students.

The affected schools are Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School, all located within the Ososo–Makeke axis of Akoko-Edo LGA in Edo State.

According to multiple reports circulating on Tuesday, June 10, 2026, the decision was prompted by a security alert reportedly issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) in a memo dated June 5, 2026. The intelligence allegedly indicated that suspected criminals were planning mass abductions in the area, with individuals named in the reports as part of the surveillance findings.

Sources claim the alert followed intercepted communications and ongoing monitoring of suspected kidnappers identified as part of a wider network operating within the region.

Authorities have not confirmed any actual abduction or attempted attack on the schools at the time of filing this report. However, the closure was described as a precautionary security measure aimed at preventing any possible breach.

Despite the shutdown of the affected schools, reports indicate that students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) are still proceeding with their examinations under tightened security arrangements.

The development has heightened concern among residents in parts of Akoko-Edo, an area that has experienced recurring insecurity challenges in recent years, including isolated kidnapping incidents along rural routes and school communities.

While official statements from the Edo State Government are still being closely awaited for full clarification, the situation has already sparked widespread discussion across social media, with many calling for stronger security deployment in vulnerable communities and school zones.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and report any suspicious movement to security agencies as surveillance operations continue in the affected areas.

Further updates are expected as authorities provide more details on the intelligence that led to the precautionary closure.
