Three persons were on Wednesday confirmed dead and 12 others seriously injured in a lone accident involving a private transport company at Iruekpen along the Benin – Ekpoma Road in Edo State.

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC attributed the ghastly accident to over-speeding.

The Toyota bus, belonging to Big Joe Motors, a popular Benin-based transport company, was said to be going to Ekpoma from Benin City when it was involved in the accident. Fourteen passengers were said to be on board.

Confirming the number of casualties, the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Edo Command, Henry Benemesia, said “What happened was that the driver was overspeeding, and wanted to overtake wrongly. Two of them died at the spot, but one died on the way to the hospital, while 12 persons sustained injuries.”

The injured persons, he said were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital while the corpses of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary.
