The Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for killers of a federal lawmaker, Temitipe Olatoye who represented Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo State.
Olatoye was gunned down by yet to be identified gunmen on Saturday during the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state. He was rushed to the intensive care unit of the University College Hospital where he later died.
In a statement issued shortly after his killing, Commissioner of Police in the state, Shina Olukolu said investigation has begun and the scene of the crime has been cordoned off. He also disclosed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police CIID, Iyaganku, Ibadan, has been directed to lead the team of investigators.
The statement read: “Concerted efforts are ongoing to unravel and arrest the suspected killers, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police Muhammed Adamu.
“I seek the cooperation and understanding of the family members who are bereaved and mourning and the support of the public to assist the Police with credible and useful information that will lead to the arrest of the fleeing culprits.’’
