There are divided opinion over whether or not the authorities should ban the use of hijab, the piece of cloth some Muslim women use in covering their faces and neck, in Nigeria. The issue came following the response of President Muhammadu Buhari to a question during his maiden presidential chat. The president had said that if the hijab is seen to be a danger to the restoration of security in the country, the government might consider its ban.
But either some persons did not understand the president or they are being mischievous, they have already started an emotive debate over the issue.
The question at the end of the day, if the president is to be well understood, is what should be the priority; religious doctrine of a section of the country or the protection of all?
