Suleiman Abba, Inspector-General of Police, on Sunday, charged all commissioners of police across the country to ensure strict compliance with the ban on police roadblocks in the country.
Abba said a situation where police officers and commands constantly violate the subsisting order forbidding mounting of checkpoints across the country is wrong and will be punishable, henceforth.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Force spokesman who quoted the IGP as saying that, “The IGP warned that all semblances of police road-blocks and permanent check-points” re-surfacing in the country be urgently removed.
Ojukwu said the Police boss warned that serious “sanctions await any command, formation or personnel that violate the order.”
Meanwhile, the IGP has also mandated all police formations to instead of roadblocks, conduct frequent road patrol.
