Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid striker, has been named the world footballer of the year for the second year in a row.
The Portuguese captain beat the duo of Lionel Messi, Barcelona striker and Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich goalkeeper to win this year’s BallonD’or award.
This year’s award makes it the third time Ronaldo has won the award.
Nadine Kessler, Wolfsburg and Germany midfielder, was also named women’s player of the year.
Meanwhile Joachim Low, Germany manager bagged the FIFA Coach of the year.
Low in his speech revealed that the award was the icing on the cake, the cake being the World Cup. He said,“I know this award is not just for me, I am taking it here on behalf of all those who have assisted.”
He added that, “We have had excellent conditions to produce what we have been able to produce. It’s a consequence of many years of hard work. I’d like to say thank you to all of the German coaches who do so much with the young players everyday.”
