Afrobeats star Rema has emerged as the biggest winner at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held on January 11, 2026, in Lagos, cementing his status as one of Africa’s leading global music exports.

Rema clinched the prestigious Artist of the Year award, alongside Best Male Artist in Western Africa and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in R&B & Soul for his hit song “Baby (Is It a Crime). His multiple wins sparked widespread celebration among fans and industry figures, with many describing the moment as a major milestone in Afrobeats history.

The awards night further highlighted Nigeria’s dominance on the continental music scene. Burna Boy won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, reinforcing his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential artists. Fast-rising star Shallipopi enjoyed a breakthrough moment, taking home Song of the Year for “Laho”, while “Laho II”, his collaboration with Burna Boy, secured Best African Collaboration.

Beyond the trophies, AFRIMA 2026 delivered unforgettable performances that celebrated Africa’s musical unity. A standout highlight was a joint performance by Ghanaian star Stonebwoy and Nigerian legend Peter PSquare, which drew massive applause and underscored the cross-border power of Afrobeats.

This year’s awards attracted over 1,200 entries from more than 40 African countries, reflecting the growing diversity and global influence of African music.
