The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has refuted claims that the Port Harcourt Refinery was not operational.
Addressing what it said were unfounded claims alleging that the refinery was not in operation, the NNPCL clarified that blending processes—common in global refineries—are employed to meet gasoline specifications using components like crack C5 from Indorama Petrochemicals.
According to the company, “Operating at 70% capacity after years of challenges, the refinery is producing significant daily outputs, including 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 900,000 liters of kerosene, 1.5 million liters of diesel, 2.1 million liters of low-pour fuel oil, and additional volumes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The company said plans were underway to scale operations to 90% capacity soon”.
The company also highlighted progress on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, which, it said, would commence operations soon, and called on Nigerians to support the transformative efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. NNPC Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to building a self-sufficient energy sector, urging citizens to focus on these milestones rather than distractions that undermine national progress.
The company expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their overwhelming support following the successful restart of the old Port Harcourt Refinery.
