At least four persons had been killed at the last count in a new wave of killings and assassinations sweeping through Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

Four people were gunned down in different parts of the city since Thursday last week when residents of the city began to notice the strange killings. All the victims were men in their prime.

The police on Monday said they had arrested the police sergeant who shot dead one Abiodun Jimoh at Elelenwo police station for allegedly refusing to pay for “bail” after he and his brother, Ishmail, were arrested for being in possession of an i-Phone.

Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, condemned the killing and said the police sergeant would be subjected to psychological assessment before the orderly room trial.

On Thursday at about 3.45pm at Evo Road, New GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, one Levi Nwabuko was shot dead by armed men, who trailed him from a bank where he had gone to withdraw money. The deceased was intercepted and shot inside his black KIA Optima car, which was abandoned alongside the money and the deceased’s friend who sustained gunshot injuries.

Also last Thursday, at 9.51 am along George Sekibo Road, off Peter Odili Road, a gang of unidentified armed men intercepted one Eloma Member, and shot him dead. The deceased was trailed from along Trans-Amadi Road, where he had gone to withdraw money. The robbers made away with the money he withdrew from the bank while his car was abandoned.

On the same day, at about 10am at Amadi Roundabout by Peter Odili Road, a gang of Iceland cult members operating in tricycle attacked and shot dead, one Greenland cult member known as Ejima. Thereafter, at about 10pm same day and same area, Greenlanders cult members regrouped and shot dead one Iceland member aka Shoky.

At 8pm along Oyigbo axis of Port Harcourt – Aba Express way, one Eruba Enyinna, a contract staff of SPDC and his friend were kidnapped on the way from his village, Akwete, Abia State. Both victims were stopped by a gang of five armed men who dressed in black and were on foot, pretending as if they were conducting stop and search security operation. After stopping the vehicle, the victims were pulled out and ordered into the bush and are still being held by the abductors, who are now demanding N100m ransom.
