The police in Delta State have arrested six people in connection with the murder of the Prince of Orhuwhorun community in Delta State, Eric Takerere, and his two police guards last week.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, Bright Edafe, which said the suspects were arrested after a painstaking police investigation on one Godspower Agabarhoayowe and Tony Edwin, also stated that the brother of the deceased, Franklyn Takerere, was also targeted for murder by the suspects.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, had on Monday directed operatives from the Delta State Anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime to go after the killers of the deceased.
“Godspower Agabarhoayowe alias Ganagana, 27 and Tony Edwin, 27, that were earlier arrested on the 09/07/2021 in connection to the murder. They led the police operatives to their hideout in Udu, Warri and Aladja area where six suspects namely Onoriode Shefo alias Chikago, 36, Omagbeosa Sholla, 30, Godwin Obukoemu alias Million, 30, Ejime Mugagbam, 34, Ejiroghenen Nushe, 24, and Egho Monday, 28.
“They all confessed to be involved in the murder of Eric Takerere and his two mobile policemen guards. They also led the operatives to their armoury where two AK47 rifles, one pump action gun, one locally made pistol, four magazines, seventy six rounds of live ammunition and thirty eight rounds of live cartridges were recovered.”
The PPRO also said that on Tuesday, the Divisional Police Officer, Ovwian Aladja received a distress call that armed robbers were operating at Obogo community. “He mobilized the police patrol team and vigilantes in the community to the scene. The armed robbers on sighting the police patrol engaged the team in a gun duel but they could not withstand the superior firepower of the combined team.
“During the gun duel, one of the armed robbers sustained serious gunshot injury while two others escaped. The injured suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment. One locally made pistol with one live cartridge were recovered. Investigation is ongoing,” the PPRO said.
