The Edo State Government says it is not true that local government council workers are owed salary. The government was reacting to rumours in some quarters that some local government council workers were owed salaries because of the crisis in the Councils.

Fred Itua, chief press secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, in a statement on Monday, described the rumours as not only false but also mischievous and intended to mislead the public.

Itua therefore called on the public to ignore the rumours as they were the handiwork of mischief makers who are envious of the remarkable successes recorded by the administration since coming on board in November 2024.

Reaffirming Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to workers’ welfare in the state, he clarified that no government worker in the state, local government workers inclusive, was owed any salary, as all payments, including that of January 2025, had been paid.

“Governor Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach in ensuring that no Edo worker, irrespective of status, is made to pass through undue hardship, is a testament to his zeal for workers’ welfare.”
