Nigerian troops have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency after intercepting and seizing more than 400 Starlink satellite internet devices allegedly used by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists across the North-East region.
The recovery was announced by Brigadier General Beyidi Martins, Commander of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, during a briefing on ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
According to the military commander, the devices were recovered during intelligence-led raids targeting terrorist logistics and communication networks. Authorities believe the seizure will significantly disrupt coordination among insurgent groups operating in remote areas with limited mobile network coverage.
General Martins also disclosed that troops dismantled more than 400 supply cases linked to the terrorists. Several suspected collaborators were reportedly arrested while transporting food items, fuel, spare parts, and other supplies from Kano through civilian routes into insurgent enclaves.
“Some collaborators do it willingly, while others are coerced,” the commander stated, while stressing the growing challenge of local support networks aiding terrorist activities.
He revealed that security agencies have introduced fresh strategies aimed at cutting off financial and logistical support for insurgents, including stricter livestock ownership verification measures designed to trace funding channels connected to terrorist operations.
However, the discovery of the recovered Starlink devices has now sparked intense nationwide debate and fresh security concerns.
Many Nigerians and security analysts are demanding answers to critical questions surrounding the origin and registration of the devices allegedly used by terrorists.
Among the key questions being raised are:
- Who registered more than 400 Starlink terminals allegedly linked to insurgents?
- What identities, addresses, or documentation were used during the activation process?
- Who financed and supplied the expensive satellite internet equipment to terrorist groups?
- Were local collaborators or international networks involved in the procurement and distribution?
- How were the devices transported into insurgent-controlled territories without detection?
