The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is on tenterhooks. This is because the electoral gains of the party in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states are threatened, particularly in the light of the verdicts of Election Petition Tribunals over the last general elections in the affected states.

So leaders of the party are jittery. That is understandable, because echoes from the courts suggest that the elections were flawed. The verdict is that there should be a re-run of the governorship elections in all the wards in Rivers State, but in 18 of the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom. In the case of Rivers, 21 state House of Assembly members are to return to the polls. PDP is shouting blue murder and the candidates are not at ease.

Adekunbi Ero, executive editor, approached lawyers to the embattled governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to find out the basis of their disagreement with the tribunal and what gives the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state confidence. Her findings are contained in the story, Fresh War In Rivers.

That was not the only thing that made the news last week. There was also the screening of ministerial nominees. The intrigues and the politics were live on television. But what was not broadcast is what we bring to you in The Making Of Buhari’s Cabinet.  Anthony Akaeze, senior assistant editor, wrote the story. As we went to press last week, Akaeze was at a function in Lagos where he was a candidate for an award.

Then from Abuja came an interview from Tajudeen Suleiman, senior associate editor. In the interview with Aminu Dikko, the director-general, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, the man says public servants needed to be given assurance that Private Public Partnership, PPP, is necessary for infrastructural development.

That is what is canvassed in our editorial, which is the lead story for the week. It is the opinion of the magazine that for Nigeria to adequately address its gross infrastructural deficit, the Muhammadu Buhari administration must embrace the PPP option. It is Nigeria: Time For Business Unusual.

Do have a blessed week.
