Nigeria has extradited Dai Qisheng, a notorious Chinese gang leader and international fugitive, following his dramatic arrest in Abuja. The operation, coordinated with Interpol, is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the global fight against organized crime.
Dai, who was wanted in China for a series of violent crimes linked to gang activity, was apprehended by Nigerian security operatives on August 8, 2025. Within days, he was handed over to Chinese authorities to face prosecution.
Interpol described the arrest and extradition as a landmark success, praising Nigeria’s swift response and its growing role in combating transnational crime networks.
Security experts say the extradition highlights Nigeria’s determination to ensure the country does not become a safe haven for fugitives fleeing justice. It also strengthens international cooperation in tackling organized crime syndicates operating across borders.
With Dai Qisheng now back in Chinese custody, global security analysts believe the case will set a precedent for faster extradition processes and closer law enforcement partnerships between Nigeria, China, and Interpol.
