Lee Kuan Yew, the former Prime Minister of Singapore, who transformed the small Island nation to a first world business and tourist hub, has died at the age of 91.
The author of the best seller, “From Third World to First: The Singapore Story,” was criticised for his tough power grip during his 31-year reign. Freedom of speech was quite restricted and political opposition were targeted by the courts during his tenure.
The current prime minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew’s son, Lee Hsien Loong paid tribute to his late father. “He fought for our independence, built a nation where there was none, and made us proud to be Singaporeans. We won’t see another man like him,” he said.
His funeral will come up on March 29.
