Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola, the LagosState Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, on Monday, revealed that the state would get 2,400 additional polling units in preparation for the 2015 elections.
Ogunmola, while speaking tojournalists at a workshop on the upcoming distribution of permanent voters cards organized for key officers of INEC by the United Nations Development Project, UNDP, in Lagos, said the distribution of voters cards would capture the new units.
He added that the new units, when created, would bring the total number of polling units in the state to about 10,865.
“There will be considerations in situating the new units. The essence is to ensure proximity and to ensure there are not more than 500 voters in a unit,” Ogunmola said.
“We have also received the delineation report from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, and have given them out to our electoral officers across the councils to study. We will use the ones we consider relevant,” he added.
Ogunmola said voters wishing to change their existing polling units to new ones would be given forms of intention.Follow Us on Social Media
