Kayode Fayemi, outgoing Governor of Ekiti Statesaid his administration strove to uphold the principle of public service at all times and delivered its promises to the people of the state.
Explaining that his administration’s 8-point agenda was not a campaign gimmick, Fayemi said it served as “our compass. We kept faith to the direction in which it pointed.”
He added that, “In governance, we professionalized the Civil service, including the elimination of costly ghost workers. We embraced public participation in the budgetary system and in allocation of community projects. We enhanced IGR (Internally Generated Revenue) without raising the tax rate,” he stated.
Fayemi made the statement on Wednesday in a valedictory speech ahead of October 16handing over as governor of the state toAyo Fayose, the newly elected governor.
The outgoing governor said he and his team of political appointees put their knowledge to work and made poverty history, upheld equity and justice anddelivered the 8-point agenda.
He added that“As progressives, we did not just promise the practical betterment of society today; we recognize that prosperity and posterity are bound together.”
Fayemi said,“I hereby announce the lifting of the curfew hitherto imposed on the capital based on the advice of the security agencies. I urge all citizens/residents to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the rule of law.”
