Kenya Accuses Al-Shebab Of Killing 28 Civilians

The Kenya government says armed Islamic militants, al-Shebab, from Somalia are responsible for the killing of some 28 non-Muslim Kenyans in a bus from Mandera, a town near Somali on their way to Nairobi, the Kenyan capital on Saturday morning.

The victims of the extremists were among the 60 passengers on a transit bus ambushed by the sect before separating them by Muslims and non-Muslims; killing the 28 non-Muslims, reports say.

The attack which happened on Kenya soil is seen by news analysts as a reprisal attack against police raids on mosques and homes of suspected sympathisers of the sect in the port city of Mombasa about a week ago.

Confirming the attack this morning, Noah Mwavinda regional police boss said, “28 innocent travellers were brutally executed by the Shebab.”

According to the police chief, the militants drove off the bus with the travelers. “So they executed their prisoners before escaping back into Somalia,” said Mwavinda

Kenya has suffered series of attacks in the past few years following the deployment of its security forces to help fight the extremists in Somalia.

One of such major attacks on the Kenyan soil is one that killed about 68 people in Westgate shopping mall in September, 2013.
