The dreaded terrorist sect, Islamic State of Iraq and al-Syria, ISIS, on Wednesday released 216 Yazidi captives in Iraq’s Kirkuk province.
Nuri Osman, an official with northern Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government, KRG, disclosed this today noting that what motivated the release was not immediately clear.
Osman said Kurdish Peshmerga forces received the released captives, majority of whom were women, children and the elderly. They were released in Small Hemîr (Hemîre Biçûk) village to the south of Kirkuk and they have been sent to Irbil, the KRG’s capital thereafter.
The 216 Yazidi civilians were kidnapped during the ISIS attacks on Sinjar on August 3, 2014.
