Tragedy struck this morning at Eleko, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos, after a heavily loaded trailer conveying planks rammed into a commercial bus, leaving at least 10 passengers dead on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was so severe that several victims were trapped inside the mangled vehicle, while survivors sustained life-threatening injuries.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), rushed to the scene to evacuate bodies and rescue those critically injured.
Traffic on the busy expressway was brought to a standstill as residents and motorists gathered around in shock, lamenting the increasing rate of accidents involving trailers in the area.
Authorities are yet to release an official casualty figure, but locals insist that no fewer than 10 people lost their lives instantly, with others rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, reckless driving, and poorly maintained heavy-duty vehicles plying major highways in Lagos.
