As the search for cure for the coronavirus disease, COVID-19 continues, the Pax Herbal Clinic and Research Laboratories, Ewu, in Esan Central local government area of Edo State managed by the Oblates of St Benedictine’s Catholic Monks has announced the development of an herbal medicine, “CVD PLUS” for the cure of the virus infection.

The announcement was made Wednesday, April 29, 2020, in a statement on their official Facebook page signed by Anslem Adodo, a Catholic reverend father. The research was said to be a joint effort of experts from two notable Federal Universities—University of Lagos and University of Benin, a tertiary health institution—Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State, and experts sent by Professors Tunde Salako and Catherine Adeyeye.

Adodo said the new drug called the “CVD PLUS”, was solely developed for the treatment of Coronavirus, adding: “The constituents are antiviral and immunodulatory agents which help to stimulate antibodies”. Adodo explained that plant-based drugs are the best approach to combat the Coronavirus disease considering that “these drugs are easily produced, stored and distributed and can be handled by both medical and non- medical personnel as they pose low contamination risk”.

The Catholic priest assured the public that NAFDAC was ready to speed up approval of the ‘CVD Plus’, stressing that “while that is ongoing, other approved products such as the Pax Herbal Bitters, Pax Herbal Bitter Tea, and Pax Herbal Health Tea could be used to manage symptoms of the Coronavirus”.
