The Federal Ministry of Transport said in a statement issued on Saturday evening that the ban of commercial motorcycle was one of the measures aimed at providing safe and secure transportation system in Nigeria.
The ministry also requires that the states of the federation develop master plans for the development of intelligent transport system to facilitate the development and management of their transport operations in compliance with emerging trends and global best practices.
Part of the safety and security measures also include proper registration and periodic assessment of commercial vehicles in all states.
According to the ministry, the recommendations were contained in a report of a week-long meeting attended by major stakeholders from federal and state transport ministries nationwide.
