Angered by recent public criticisms of the President Goodluck Jonathan led administration by OlusegunObasanjo, former Nigerian President, AyodeleFayose, Ekiti State Governor has urged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to urgently suspend Obasanjo over what he called anti-party activities.
In a statement issued on Friday by LereOlayinka,Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Ekiti governor,Fayose was quoted as saying, “A man who has refused to respect the office of the President of Nigeria that he once occupied does not also deserve respect from anyone.”
Fayose’s outburst came against the backdrop of the visit of five PDP Governors led by GodswillAkpabio, AkwaIbom State governor and the Chairman, PDP Governors Forum who held a closed-door meeting with the former President at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday.
“No amount of mudslinging from him (Obasanjo) will stop President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-electionin 2015,” Fayose said.
He also called on the National Working Committee, NWC of the ruling party to immediately setup a disciplinary panel to investigate Obasanjo’s anti-party activities which would serve as deterrent to others who he said may want to toe the same direction as the former President.
Describing Obasanjoas one of the major problems confronting Nigeria at the moment, Fayose stated that the former President’s public criticism of the Jonathan administration was inappropriate of someone whom he claimed wasted “billions of naira in his attempt to perpetuate himself in office beyond the constitutionally recognised two-term.”
“Even if President Jonathan gives Obasanjo his blood today, he (Obasanjo) cannot change because he is already neckdeep in the APC agenda, with his eyes on the vice presidential ticket of the party.
“Therefore, no amount of visits by PDP governors can make him change his mind about President Jonathan, whom he hates not because he has not performed, but because he (Jonathan) did not hand over his presidency to him,” Fayose said.
