Jelili Adesiyan, the minister of Police Affairs, has given his support for the use of electronic card readers in the coming polls on the condition that the motive is not to rig the elections or disenfranchise some voters.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Osogbo on Thursday, the police minister said the introduction of the technology is laudable provided it is not going to give unfair advantage to some candidates.
“It is good to have card readers for elections provided it is well intentioned. During the last year governorship election in Osun State, they cloned PVC from Lagos and used them here. But with the card readers such will be impossible,” he said.
He also urged voters who had challenges with the card reader to obtain incident forms from the INEC officials so that they can cast their votes.
The minister also encouraged the electorate to vote as he assured them that they would not be disenfranchised.
