Edo Floods: Relocate Immediately to Camps, Yakubu, Governorship Hopeful, Urges Inhabitants of Coastal Communities

Former Chairman of Esan North East local government area of Edo State, and a frontline aspirant in the 2024 governorship election in the state, John Yakubu has made a passionate appeal to people living in the coastal communities around the River Niger and other flood-prone areas of the state, to move into camps provided by the government on higher grounds.

Yakubu, however, urged both the federal and state governments to look into the possibility of improving the camp’s facilities so as to ensure easy compliance by citizens to move into them.

Yakubu’s appeal was consequent upon the advisory to the affected persons by the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) and the the State Emergency and Management Agency, (SEMA) to move to higher ground to avoid the disaster and human sufferings that usually follow the flooding of their ancestral homes.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship hopeful commended NEMA and SEMA for being proactive in their joint efforts to prevent the disaster that always accompanies the overflow of the banks of River Niger from time to time.

A concerned Yakubu also urged Edo people whose relations are still living in such places to appeal to them to immediately move temporarily into camps provided by the government on higher ground for the sake of their safety.

While admonishing the people to think about safety first, he contended that only the living can practice and observe customs and tradition.
