…Ward chairman affirms party membership.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the September 19, 2020 election in Edo State, Osagie Ize-Iyamu has promised to that when elected by the grace of God, he would be the governor of the whole state and not that of Edo South senatorial district where he hails from.
Speaking when leaders of the APC in Edo Central Senatorial district paid him a visit to congratulate him on his victory, Ize-Iyamu said he was happy that the senatorial district was the first to do so, and promised to be the governor of the entire Edo State.
The Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God said “Let me also assure you that this will not be a government that will focus it’s attention only on Edo South. I do not want to be seen as Edo South governor but Edo State Governor. I will be a Governor that will deliberately try to develop every part of the state because that is the only way we can actually show that we are one”.
According to him, “Whether in terms of physical structures, in terms of appointments, in terms of projects, whether we are doing projects and we are making decisions, we must constantly look at the map of Edo State and make sure that we are consciously ensuring that there is an even spread in the three senatorial districts”.
Ize-Iyamu, who emerged the APC flag-bearer at the party’s primary election on Monday, also commended leaders and members of the party in Edo Central senatorial district for their overwhelming support for his aspiration at the just concluded primaries.
He said, “Let me thank you for being the first Senatorial district to congratulate me on my nomination as the candidate of the APC. I cannot thank you enough. Many of you were instrumental to my return to the party; you encouraged me and you have always been with me”.
He particularly commended the leader of the delegation, Francis Inegbeneki, for accompanying him to all the local governments across the state before the primaries, with the message from the district that the 51wards of the five local government areas were in his support.
He said Inegbeneki’s message was heavy and well-received in the two other senatorial districts which also supported his nomination, adding “from the results, I did very well in the 51 wards”.
Speaking earlier, Inegbeneki said the purpose of their visit was to congratulate Ize-Iyamu on his resounding victory at the party primaries and to assure him of the maximum support of the 51 wards that make up the five local government areas of Edo Central at the governorship elections in September.
Meanwhile, the executive committee of the All Progressives Congress in Ugboko Niro Ward 5, Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State, where Ize-Iyamu was registered, has authenticated his membership of the APC and pledged its unflinching support to his emergence as governor come September 19.
Ize-Iyamu’s membership of the party had been a subject of litigation as the faction of the APC hitherto loyal to the governor, Godwin Obaseki, who has now defected to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, denied that he registered in the ward after he returned to the party last year.
But in a twist to the controversy, Mathew Ogbebor, the Chairman of the ward who led other members of the executive on a solidarity visit to Ize-Iyamu after emerging the candidate of the party on Monday, dismissed the allegation that he failed to complete his registration at the ward level.
Ogbebor affirmed that a membership card signed by him was indeed issued to Ize-Iyamu last year after the completion of his registration in accordance with the party’s constitution. The ward chairman described Ize-Iyamu as a worthy and notable member of the party whose emergence as the candidate has united the party and provided assurance of victory at the polls.
Responding, Ize-Iyamu praised the executive of the ward for insisting on the truth despite pressure and intimidation from some persons seeking to cause confusion in the party.
He gave assurances of a resounding victory at the polls in September and urged them to continue mobilization efforts in rural communities to promote greater understanding of his SIMPLE agenda aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the state.Follow Us on Social Media
