The Vice-Chairman of Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo, Maureen Ekharagbon, has resigned. Ekharagbon who dropped her resignation letter dated June 10, 2020, cited administrative, governance, and political grounds for quitting her position.

In the letter which was copied to the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Local Government Service Commission, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ekharagbon said, “I tender my resignation based on administrative, political and governance grounds as politics and governance are inextricably connected.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank Governor Godwin Obaseki for the opportunity to serve and also the Chairman of the Council, Mr Scott Ogbemudia.

“I am grateful to the people of Ovia North East Local Government at large and the leadership of the APC under which platform I was elected”.

Ekharagbon’s resignation brings to three, high profile individuals that have resigned from the Obaseki-led government within the last few weeks. Recall that Taiwo Akerele, the then chief of staff to the governor and Paul Ohonbamu, erstwhile commissioner for Communications and Strategy, had resigned their appointments from the government. The resignations came as political tension heightens ahead of the June 22 APC governorship primary election in the state.
