Halloween has been known over the years as a day filled with candy, costumes and scary stories for many American children.
Evolving from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, modern Halloween has become less about literal ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy.
The Celts used the day to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, and also believed that this transition between the seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead.
Over the millennia the holiday transitioned from a somber pagan ritual to a day of merriment, costumes, parades and sweet treats for children and adults.
It is also a day that some people believe is devilish and a day for occult ritual. It is always celebrated once a year and usually on October 31.
But this years’ Halloween is with a difference as Nigerians have now joined the fray. This year’s Halloween was not only celebrated in America, Nigeria celebrities also came out in large numbers to celebrate the day.
In spite of the fact that it is practically alien to the Nigerian culture, celebrities like Toolz, Stella Damasus, Munachi Abi, Ruth Kadiri, Psquare, Praiz, Lynxx, Iyanya and their likes all gathered to mark this years’ Halloween.
Expectedly, their participation in marking the Halloween day has also brought them some backlash from fans. Damasus was particular attacked by some of her fans on Instagram who accused her of participating in a devilish event.
On a lighter mood it was fun seeing some celebrities’ costumes as some included sexy outfits. Check out some costumes of celebrities both in Nigeria and America in the following photographs:
