At least 34 persons were killed and over 50 injured after a car bomb exploded in a government-controlled village in Central Hama Province, Syria.
According to Sana, Syria’s state-run news agency, the car exploded in Horrah village, in the countryside near the central city of Hama early today.
Sana said rebels who have been fighting fiercely to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, incumbent Syrian President, carried out the attack.
The Syrian uprising, which began in 2011, has fledged into a civil war and has claimed the lives of more than 160, 000 people and displaced 9.5 million others, which constitutes almost a half of the country’s population.
Although it started as a peaceful protest, the crisis has continuously set government forces against rebel sects, many of whom are motivated by Islamist and sectarian rhetoric.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a United Kingdom-based activist group said many of those injured are in critical condition, thereby raising concerns that death toll in today’s explosion would probably increase.
