Bonny and Finimah youths on Thursday clashed at the gate of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited over demands for community development grants.
Finimah youths were said to have mobilised in front of the gate when Bonny youths got wind of the protest and moved to dislodge the Finimah youths.
Finimah youths had alleged that the community was not getting its own fair share of the yearly N3 billion community development grant given by NLNG to host communities. Finimah is supposed to be getting 40 percent of that grant, a spokesman of the youths said. But they are not getting it.
A fight, according to sources, ensued and many people were injured before security personnel came in and restored normalcy.
Other issues allegedly raised by Finimah youths included an MOU on the $20 billion Train 7 project, whose groundbreaking ceremony is due for Tuesday next week
The youths were also asking for their right to control the community content rights as per the NOGIC Act of 2010 that created the Nigerian Content Board.
