The first civilian governor of Abia State, in the southeastern part of Nigeria, is dead. He was reported to have taken ill and was recieving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the country. Onu who was one of the politicians who ran for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC was also in the presidential race in 1999. That year he stepped down for Olu Falae of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, which formed an alliance with his All-Peoples Party, APP to compete with the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
He was a minister in the administration of former president, Muhammadu Buhari.
