Atiku Settles for Okowa As Running Mate

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has announced that Governor Arthur Okowa of Delta State will be on the same ticket with him for the forthcoming presidential election.

He made the announcement at a ceremony in Abuja. For about two weeks there have been meetings and consultations among leaders of the party including the candidate to arrive at a consensus candidate for the slot.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who came second behind Abubakar at the party primary and Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State were two names that featured prominently as the negotiations were going on. Udom was also one of the contenders at the primary. Though Okowa did not contest for the ticket he was highly speculated to be one of the people to be considered to run with the candidate.

With the unveiling of Okowa today in Abuja the issue of who will run with Abubakar has been finally laid to rest.

The three men are from the south south geo-political zone where the PDP has a good following.
