Afghanistan Unveils Unity Government

Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani, has announced a unity cabinet, three months after he was sworn in.

The names of twenty five ministers were unveiled at a ceremony in Kabul presided over by president Ghani and government chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah.

The announcement followed heated negotiations between the two former opponents who decided to work together after disputed elections last year.

The new cabinet still needs to be approved by the Afghan parliament.

The unity government has three women for the portfolio of women’s affairs, culture and higher education.
