Not less than 31 persons died and over 90 others were injured today after a series of explosion went off in a market in the capital of Xinjiang, a restive western Chinese region.

Described as a violent terrorist incident by China’s Ministry of Public Security, the explosion occurred at around 7:50 am when two SUVs crashed into shoppers in the Urumqi market with explosives flying out of the vehicles.

According to an eyewitness simply identified as Shan, most of the victims affected by the blast are elderly people who get up early to trade and shop for vegetables.

Xi Jinping, Chinese President, has requested that the terrorists behind the attack be fished out and severely punished while the Chinese Ministry of Public Security has guaranteed that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
