Why Clinton Canceled Visit To Nigeria

Reasons have emerged as to why Bill Clinton, a former president of the United States of America cancelled his proposed visit to Nigeria.

Clinton was billed to deliver a goodwill message during the signing ceremony of the National Peace Accord in Abuja between February 12 and 13, ahead the 2019 general elections.

A statement from his spokesperson, Angel Ureña to the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY Newspapers, Nduka Obaigbena, indicated that the former president, who was to attend the event on the invitation of the National Peace Committee, feared that the visit could be politicised

The statement read in part: “It has become apparent that President Clinton’s visit to Nigeria has the potential to be politicized in a way that is not in line with the goals of the Committee. Therefore, he will not be traveling to Abuja.”

To make up for the aborted visit, the statement also indicated that Clinton would talk to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsami Abubakar (retd.) this week.
