Voter Cards Snatched in Edo

Baritor Kpagih, Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that 4,658 Permanent Voter Cards were snatched during last week’s PVC distribution in nine local government areas of the state.

This was revealed by the Commissioner while briefing journalists on the PVC distribution exercise in the state. He explained that a total of 3,661 PVCs were snatched in eight polling units in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.

The INEC senior officer noted that the commission also lost 997 PVCs in Etsako West and Ovia North-East local government areas of the state.

He added that the matter has been reported to the police and that the commission would equally commence an internal investigation. “The case has been reported to the police and we believe that the Police will do a good job,” he noted.

Kpagih who lamented that “the most disturbing is the one that took place in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where a total number of 3,661 cards were snatched from eight polling units,” made it clear that the PVCs could only be useful to their rightful owners.

He said some of the challenges witnessed during the exercise could be attributed to lateness of the INEC workers at the units and delayed training of the staff.
