Ashoka Mukpo, a 33-year- old American cameraman working for the National Broadcasting Company, NBC News in Liberia has tested positive to Ebola.
Mukpo was a freelance cameraman employed as a second cameraman for Nancy Snyderman, NBC News’ chief medical editor and correspondent.
In a note delivered to staff of the NBC, Deborah Turness, NBC News’ President reportedly said the organisation is doing everything they can to give Mukpo the best care possible. “He will be flown back to the United States for treatment at a medical centre that is equipped to handle Ebola patients,” she said and assured that the organisation is taking all possible measures to protect its employees and the general public.
Turness further disclosed that the rest of the crew, including Nancy, are being closely monitored and have shown no symptoms or warning signs of being infected with the virus. She added that all members of the crew will be flown back on a private charter flight and they will place themselves under quarantine in the United States for 21 days to accommodate caution.
Mukpo is believed to be the fourth American stricken by the disease while in Liberia. Others are Rick Sacra, Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, all of whom contracted the disease while working in the country. Each of them has reportedly recovered.
