President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a record-breaking ₦68.32 trillion national budget aimed at driving economic growth, infrastructure development, and improved security.

The signing, which took place on Friday, marks a significant fiscal milestone as Nigeria prepares for the new budget cycle beginning April 1, 2026. According to details shared by the Presidency, the budget includes substantial allocations, with ₦4.799 trillion earmarked for statutory transfers and ₦15.8 trillion dedicated to debt servicing.

In a related move, President Tinubu also assented to a separate bill extending the implementation period of the 2025 budget. The extension pushes the deadline for the 2025 capital expenditure from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026. This adjustment is expected to allow ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) more time to complete ongoing projects and ensure better value for money without disrupting fiscal operations.

The 2026 budget, which represents a notable increase from earlier proposals, emphasizes capital spending to support infrastructure, boost economic stability, and promote inclusive growth across the country. Sources indicate that nearly half of the total expenditure is directed toward capital projects.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the development, highlighting the administration’s commitment to disciplined budget execution and renewed hope for Nigerians.This fiscal framework comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy, address security challenges, and deliver on key infrastructure promises.
