A brief but dramatic exchange between First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke stole the spotlight at the grand finale in Ile-Ife on Sunday, where the Ooni installed Mrs. Tinubu as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua in recognition of her contributions to culture and development.
The event, graced by Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries, blended pageantry, politics and cultural symbolism — until protocol tensions surfaced.
While delivering his remarks, Governor Adeleke suddenly veered into singing Christian worship songs, complete with musical accompaniment, turning his speech into a mini praise session.
The First Lady visibly displeased, walked up to the podium and firmly intervened.
“I’m giving you five more minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough — that’s not what I asked you to do,” she told the governor, urging him back to official protocol.
But Adeleke continued singing, prompting a second warning. Returning to the podium, Tinubu issued a sharper directive:
“I will turn off the microphone. Stop the music.”
The exchange immediately sparked reactions online, with clips trending on social media and Nigerians debating whether the moment reflected a breach of protocol or Adeleke’s well-known expressive style.
The ceremony, meant to celebrate culture and unity, instead highlighted a clash of personalities and protocol — adding a viral twist to what was intended to be a historic traditional title installation.
