A Nigerian man has gone viral after sharing a harrowing story of police abuse, alleging that officers not only tore up his original statement but also replaced it with a fabricated confession that falsely implicated him in armed robbery — before shooting him in the leg.

In a chilling post on X (formerly Twitter), shared by user @dammiedammie35, the victim recounted how he was coerced into signing a statement he did not write, only to realize later that the officers had added serious criminal charges without his knowledge.

“They tore my original statement, wrote their own version with ‘armed robbery’ and forced me to sign it. Then, they shot me in the leg. Omoh,” the victim wrote, drawing widespread anger and calls for justice from netizens.

The incident has sparked a wave of condemnation on social media, with many Nigerians using the hashtag #PoliceBrutality to demand accountability from the Nigeria Police Force.

Critics say the case highlights ongoing systemic abuse within law enforcement agencies, despite years of protests and promises of reform following the #EndSARS movement.

“After #EndSARS, they’re still doing this? Nothing has changed,” one user commented. Another wrote: “This is why people fear the police more than criminals.”

As of the time of writing, no official statement has been issued by the Nigerian Police in response to the viral claim.

Human rights groups are now calling for an immediate investigation into the allegations, with many insisting that the officers involved must be identified and prosecuted.

This disturbing revelation adds to the growing list of reported cases of torture, extortion, and unlawful detentions carried out by rogue police units in the country — a situation that continues to undermine public trust in Nigeria’s security institutions.
