Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has praised the Super Eagles for their impressive performance against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Yaounde yesterday, which put them in the commanding position in group B. The Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw and that extended their point to 10. Cameroon, meanwhile, has crashed out, having amassed only 2 points from the same number of matches as Nigeria. Saluting the prowess of the team, Saraki, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said:
“You have proved your mettle in the last two matches and came tops in your group with 10 points. Your win over Cameroon on Friday and a draw with the same opponent on Monday brought great joy to us all. Your skillful display and sterling performance has raised the hopes that Nigeria will indeed join football nations across the world to compete for the 2018 World Cup. I believe that the dream of relaunching the country into the prestigious tournament and making a mark once again is attainable if you remain focused on the national goal.” He added that the Super Eagles “surmounted daunting challenges” but the “individual determination and zeal to excel have taken” them this far.
The President of the Senate called on all Nigerians to continue to support the team to ensure that they eventually qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Russia next year.
