Russia announced on Thursday that transsexual and transgender people will no longer qualify for driving licences in the country.
Other offences listed include, fetishism, exhibitionism, voyeurism, pathological gambling and compulsive stealing.
The government, who termed the offences as those bordering on “mental disorders,” said it decided to tighten medical controls for drivers because Russia suffers too many road accidents.
Head of Professional Drivers Union, Alexander Kotov, welcomed the move saying, “we have too many deaths on the road and I believe toughening medical requirements for applicants is fully justified.”
He however said the requirements should not be so strict for non-professional drivers.
