The Chief priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Harrison Okao, has been suspended by the Oba of Benin, Ewuare 11. The Ohenosa was sanctioned for alleged unauthorised ministration.
His suspension was recommended by the Joint Elders Committee of the Cathedral and some senior palace chiefs.
A statement signed by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Coucil, Frank Irabor, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, said the suspension was occasioned by “long-standing lingering breach and non-charlance by Okao over several years and age-long custom and traditional”
Irabor posited that the suspension would further bring peace and sanity regarding worship at the Holy Arousa Cathedral.
“This decision is expected to bring lasting peace, sanity and tranquility to the holy spiritual environment that is imperative in the Holy Aruosa Cathedral of Benin which has hitherto been absent in the Holy Arousa because of the the non-compliance with tradition and custom by Harrison Okao over several years,” he further stated.
The suspended Okao was warned to henceforth stop parading himself as Ohenosa, directed to handover property of the cathedral, including the key to the cathedral to one Esere, and to also stop operating the Cathedral Bank account.
