A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to simplify the process of collecting Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye said many eligible voters have been subjected to unnecessary hardship by the current PVC collection process, warning that the situation could discourage participation in the crucial election.

He urged the electoral commission to adopt a more efficient and citizen-friendly system that would enable registered voters to obtain their PVCs without undue stress.

According to the APC chieftain, making PVC collection easier would encourage greater voter participation and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process by allowing more citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

Despite his concerns, Oyintiloye appealed to residents who are yet to collect their voter cards not to be discouraged. He urged them to complete the process as soon as possible and participate peacefully in the governorship election by voting for candidates of their choice.

He also warned against any form of intimidation or actions capable of undermining the electoral process, stressing that democracy can only thrive when citizens are allowed to vote freely without fear.

“No individual or group should be allowed to undermine the democratic process through acts capable of causing panic or discouraging lawful participation in the election,” Oyintiloye said.

The former lawmaker further called on security agencies to remain vigilant before, during, and after the election, urging them to provide adequate protection for voters, electoral officials, and election materials.

He said individuals found engaging in electoral violence, voter intimidation, ballot disruption, or any other act capable of threatening the credibility of the election should be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Commenting on the political atmosphere in the state, Oyintiloye expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship election.

He said the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has continued to enjoy widespread acceptance across Osun State.

According to him, the enthusiasm shown by party supporters and residents reflects growing confidence in Oyebamiji’s leadership qualities and vision for the state.

Oyintiloye maintained that the APC was well-positioned to reclaim power in Osun, expressing optimism that voters would democratically elect Oyebamiji as the state’s next governor.

The Osun State governorship election is expected to be one of Nigeria’s most closely watched off-cycle polls, with political parties intensifying campaigns and stakeholders emphasizing the need for peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.

As preparations continue, attention remains focused on INEC’s readiness, voter participation, and the role of security agencies in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
