Oshiomhole’s Ewohimi In-Laws Assure Obaseki of Massive Votes

Residents of Ewohimi in Esan South-East local government area of Edo State have promised to deliver 100 percent votes to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki, as the party’s campaign train stopped over in the community. The residents gave their pledge at a campaign rally of the PDP held at the country home of one of the governorship aspirants of the party, Kenneth Imasuangbon. Several members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, reportedly defected to the PDP at the rally.

The governorship candidate of the PDP in the September 19, 2020 poll, Godwin Obaseki who is the incumbent governor, assured the people that he would exceed their expectation, promising that the development their son-in-law, Adams Oshiomhole denied them when he governed the State for eight years would be given to them. Oshiomhole’s late wife, Clara who died of breast cancer in 2010, hailed from Ewohimi.

Addressing the people, Obaseki promised to address the power problem which he claimed was peculiar to most parts of the State. “What your in-law could not do, your son and brother will do it for you. I know that the one that worries you most is electricity. We have discovered that everywhere we go in each ward, it is electricity. I want to assure you that If you vote for me, I will work for you”, he stated.

Obaseki also promised that more roads in the local government area would be constructed by his administration. At the palace of the Duke of Ewohimi, Peter Ojeifoh Usifoh, where he addressed members of the Traditional Rulers Council of Chiefs, Obaseki promised to prioritize road construction, water and electricity projects as well as power and education in the next administration.

In his response, the royal father prayed for the governor and is deputy, Philip Shaibu, as well as other members of his entourage. Usifoh, who spoke through the President of Ewohimi Community Development Association, Innocent Uwaegbea, promised to support the re-election of the governor and charged him to fulfill his campaign promises.

One of the leaders of the party who addressed the rally included the Senator representing the Edo Central senatorial district, Clifford Ordia, who said they would be casting their votes for Obaseki because of the infrastructure development recorded in the area. Ordia said the governor had opened up the economy of Esanland through good road networks.

Praising Imasuangbon’s robust influence in the area, Ordia noted that his political mentorship had brought development to the area. He said the former governorship aspirant’s political force in Esanland and Edo State in general, was second to none, stressing that “As you can see, no one was left at home in Ward two. No single soul could have pulled such a crowd for PDP anywhere in Esanland. Imasuangbon has been with the governor since the first day of the rally which started in Akoko-Edo and the result will be manifest on September 19. We are going to deliver Ewohimi to the PDP. The APC will not get one vote here.”
